Heres a quick guide on howto charge a ipad using a POE switch . This is particularly useful when using ipads in "in-wall" mounts .

First off purchase the following

1x Trendnet TPE-114GS POE splitter

1x USB extension cable

1x RAVPower RP-UA01( or cheap Chinese equivalent )

1.) Remove the red power cable from the trendnet box , Cut off one end of this cable and strip down some of the wires.

2) cut off the "extension"end of the USB cable and solder it as it is shown above .

Red > White

Yellow > Black

3.) it should now look like the above

4.) Attach the RavPower to the Extended USB end

5.) You can now attach your ipad/ipod/iphone usb cable to the Ravpower .

Please Note : The ipad may specify "not charging" but ! it does still seem to charge which may take longer than usual !. This is down to the lack of power received from the USB/POE.

Another thing to note is that IOS 7 has some new security installed to stop unauthorized charging devices . If you have a jail broken ipad/iPhone you can download a add-on from cydia which can allow unauthorized chargers to be used .

With thanks to GeoLchris for hes knowledge.
